I realize that the point of a column is to relay a writer's opinion, but it should not be to relay fantasy. As a Duke graduate, I read The Chronicle online fairly often, and it disturbs me to see that The Chronicle seems to have its own bi-weekly Israel bashing. Are the views of Abdullah Al-Arian on the Middle East really that important that they warrant constant repetition? Doesn't The Chronicle have any other topics that he can write about? His articles are filled with total disregard for truth and fact. Even research conducted by Bir Zeit University (an institution that he could not possibly claim to be "Zionist") tells a completely different story than Al-Arian in several of his tales of the past--most notably his completely inaccurate representation of Deir Yassin. I think before The Chronicle publishes any more of Al-Arian's diatribes they should take a closer look at what he is writing and who in fact he is.

Is The Chronicle aware that they are publishing the ramblings of the son of a widely suspected terrorist? His own father was fired from the University of South Florida as a result of his ties to terrorism and his heading a group that is a known Hamas front. His uncle was imprisoned for three years on secret evidence related to terrorism. Type in Al-Arian on any Internet search engine and see the very long list of his family's links to known terrorist groups, investigations into finances related to terrorist activity and imprisonment as a result of those terrorist links. Anyone who doesn't think that Al-Arian's own affiliation with these people should be questioned is kidding themselves. It's bad enough that Duke is educating one of America's premier future terrorist leaders, but it's worse that The Chronicle then prints his trash every other week. Put Al-Arian's articles out of their misery.
